An M3U link points to a text playlist file listing channel names and their stream URLs. Your IPTV provider gives it to you as one long link that includes your username and password. You paste it into an IPTV player, which reads the list and shows the channels. An M3U link often comes with a second XMLTV link for the programme guide (EPG), because the M3U file alone doesn't contain schedules.
